Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting)and Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education) return for the West End transfer of Sam Holcroft’s (Rules for Living) elusive and explosive new play following its critically acclaimed, sold out run at the Almeida. Interrogating censorship, authorship and free speech, this play within a play, directed by Jeremy Herrin, takes audiences on a surprising, entertaining and thought-provoking journey. When creativity and corruption collide, who decides what is art and what is truth?
About the Creative Team:
Sam Holcroft's first play, Cockroach, was performed at Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre in 2008 (Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland nomination for Best Play and shortlisted for the John Whiting Award). This has been followed by a series of ambitious, challenging, plays, including While You Lie, Edgar & Annabel, and an adaptation of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. She won the Tom Erhardt Award for up-and-coming writers in 2009. Sam has been Writer-in-Residence at the National Theatre Studio and is a former Pearson Playwright-in-Residence at the Traverse Theatre. The National Theatre produced her play Rules for Living in 2015. Sam was the recipient of the 2014 Yale University Windham Campbell Literary Prize in Drama. Jeremy Herrin is the former Artistic Director of Headlong and Deputy Artistic Director of the Royal Court. Over two decades, Jeremy has directed a string of award winning hits that transferred to the West End and New York, including the Wolf Hall Trilogies: Wolf Hall, Bring Up the Bodies, and The Mirro and The Light (RSC, West End and Broadway), That Face by Polly Stenham, This House by James Graham, The Nether by Jennifer Haley, People, Places and Things by Duncan Macmillan, Labour of Love by James Graham, and Best of Enemies and Almost Famous the Musical (both on Broadway). In 2021, Jeremy directed the world premiere of After Life by Jack Thorne for the National Theatre and most recently, he directed Olivier-nominated play Best of Enemies by James Graham.
