Please join the London alumni associations of Harvard College and Harvard Law School for breakfast and a panel discussion hosted by Sullivan & Cromwell LLP on November 13th from 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM. The panel consists of four notable London-based Harvard College and Harvard Law alumni who will share how their international experiences have helped to further their careers and their perspectives on how globalization is changing the business and legal landscape.

There will be a 30 minute informal networking reception and breakfast starting at 7:30 am. The panel discussion will begin promptly at 8:00am and will consist of a brief introduction to each of the panelists and a moderated Q&A. Audience questions will be taken for the final 20 minutes. Kenneth Caplan – A.B. ‘95

Head of Blackstone Real Estate Europe

Kenneth Caplan is a Senior Managing Director and Head of Real Estate Europe. Mr. Caplan is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Real Estate group’s investment activities and personnel in Europe. In addition, he is responsible for reviewing all acquisitions for BREP.  Since joining Blackstone in 1997, Mr. Caplan has been involved in a variety of real estate acquisitions and initiatives in the United States, Europe and Asia, and has played a key role in Blackstone’s real estate investments across all property types.  Before joining Blackstone, Mr. Caplan was at Lazard Frères& Co. in the real estate investment banking group. Mr. Caplan received an AB in Economics from Harvard University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude and received the John Harvard Scholarship for highest academic achievement.

 

Caroline Chang – J.D. ‘01

General Counsel, Farrallon Capital Europe

 

Ms. Chang joined Farallon in 2008 and is a Member and General Counsel of Farallon Capital Europe. Previously, Ms. Chang worked as counsel in the Merchant Banking Division of Morgan Stanley in London and as a mergers and acquisitions associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in London. Ms. Chang graduated from Harvard Law School with a J.D. and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Biology. Ms. Chang is also a Trustee of the Harvard Club of UK and co-chair of the Public Service Committee.

 

Sanjay Patel – A.B. ‘83

Head of Apollo Europe

Mr. Patel is a Senior Partner of Apollo, Head of Europe, and Managing Partner of Apollo European Principal Finance (EPF), having joined the Firm in 2010. He is also a member of the Operating Committee and Senior Management Committee, and is resident in the London office. He was previously a partner at Goldman Sachs & Co. where he was co-head of European and Indian Private Equity for the Principal Investment Area (“PIA”). Mr. Patel was also a member of Goldman Sachs Partnership Committee and a member of the Investment Committee of the Goldman Sachs Foundation. Mr. Patel started his career at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in 1983 and spent seventeen years in PIA in New York and London. He also served as President of Greenwich Street Capital from 1998 to 2003. Mr. Patel serves on the board of directors of Brit Insurance, Countrywide Holdings and Aurum Holdings. Mr. Patel is a member of the Board of Overseers for Harvard University and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Harvard College Fund. He is also a member of the Advisory Council of Impetus – The Private Equity Foundation in the UK and serves on the Investment Committee of the Eton College Foundation. Mr. Patel received an engineering degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard College and received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar. He was educated at Eton College in the UK, where he was a King’s Scholar.

 

George White – A.B. ’77, J.D. ‘81

Partner, Sullivan & Cromwell LLP

George White has been a partner of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP since 1989 and has been resident in the London Office since 1994.  From 1995-2001 he was responsible for the firm’s Frankfurt Office, and he was previously based in the firm’s Paris Office in the mid-1980s.  Mr. White’s practice covers international capital markets, corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions transactions and corporate restructurings, and he has advised on many high-profile cross-border transactions, particularly in the financial services and consumer products industries.  Mr. White graduated from Harvard College with an AB in Government summa cum laude and from Harvard Law School with a JD cum laude.
